Our client in Sterling Heights, Michigan is looking for Quality Engineer

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Quality Superintendent, the Quality Engineer will coordinate the activities of all inspectors within the Product Realization cycle. This includes assuring Auditors (in staff positions in other disciplines) will audit work instructions / documentation compliance, compliance to statistical in process requirements and product compliance to IATF 16949 Customer/Internal technical specifications.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Ensure auditors utilize and comply with IATF 16949 system requirements follow up on corrective actions as necessary.

Assist APQP/Liaison Quality department in establishing and implementing boundary samples on all internal product lines.

Assist Production in training and implementation of all quality standards throughout the plant.

Train Auditors in audit activities, standards, procedures, and ISO System requirements.

Review SPC/SQC requirements with the team and ensure auditors are competent and qualified in SPC/SQC.

Direct the activities of Inspectors conducting Incoming Inspection ensure compliance to established procedures and NMR process is adhered to.

Ensure NMR, Alert, and Corrective Action procedures are adhered to by Inspection and Audit Personnel.

Generate reports on audit findings, NMR charge back, nonconformance trends in SPC/SQC and corrective action.

Actively participate in corrective action reviews and meetings.

Be an active member of all Preliminary Material Reviews for Internal, Supplier, or Customer Non-Conformances.

Conduct layered in-house audits on all systems and processes.

Conduct ISO/IATF 16949 and internal audits under the direction of the Quality Superintendent.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Participate as an active member of the Product Development Team (PDT) under the direction of the APQP Team Leader.

Ensure all shop floor SPC/SQC measuring equipment is calibrated to ISO/TS16949 requirements.

Liaison sorting activities with customer / supplier with aim to contain nonconforming product.

Quoting/purchasing activities with suppliers/vendors for the quality department.

Assist with PPAP activities.

Weekly / monthly operational reporting to management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

College diploma or certificate in Quality or equivalent experience.

Knowledge of IAFT 16949 system requirements considered an asset.

Understanding of automotive part sampling.

Broad knowledge of automotive processes, especially metal stampings and assemblies.

Good interpersonal skills both oral and written.

Travel as required to perform customer and/or internal requirements or job functions.

Required to adhere to and comply with environmental, health and safety rules/policies as related to the job function and business conduct guidelines.

Sound problem solving skills, eg. 5-why, 8D and 5S.
