Our client in Alma, Michigan is in need of a MANUFACTURING ENGINEER.

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for supporting ongoing and new manufacturing processes and improvements within the plant that will meet and/or exceed internal and customer expectations. A Manufacturing Engineer is a hands-on technical resource to lead and carryout engineering activities and initiatives to support manufacturing operations. This individual is a die casting expert, tooling specialist, mentor, and teacher with a high degree of competency in maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem solving. The position continually improves the performance of the die casting process through projects to improve machine control, reduce variation, and implement new technologies.

This position, as well as others in the facility, must promote plant wide safety, housekeeping, visual management, and the implementation and sustainability of the Production System.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership and technical expertise in the die cast tooling department to ensure company and departmental goals are continually achieved
  • Supports the Engineering department goals to achieve continuous improvement projects that meet short and long-term growth and cost objectives
  • Leads casting sampling activity for new prototype and production parts to identify and document required process parameters to meet customer requirements
  • Monitor both internal and external product quality, as well as current production performance, and implement corrective or improvement actions to meet or exceed plant and customer goals and objectives
  • Provides technical assistance and product expertise to reduce costs of existing products with a focus on redirecting costs of non-quality (scrap, rework, customer returns, and downtime) and eliminating non-value added operations
  • Regularly reviews and evaluates process data to predict and correct undesirable die casting process related conditions before impacting Overall Equipment Effectiveness
  • Utilizes process data on a regular basis to identify improvement opportunities in scrap rate, cycle time, uptime, or other plant metrics in the die casting operation
  • Oversees and manages die cast tooling process changes in accordance with change management procedures
  • Facilitates effective communication across all departments and within the die casting value stream across a three-shift operation to share progress, status, and lessons-learned
  • Collaborates with customers and engineering peers to ensure design for manufacturability of new casting programs
  • Reviews and provides input on all new tooling designs to ensure effectiveness for the die casting process
  • Provides engineering floor support to production die casting operations and maintenance activities for advanced troubleshooting to minimize downtime and scrap
  • Assists in the education and training of floor personnel to enhance employee ownership and quality improvement
  • Assists in coordinating the design, procurement, and delivery of new machinery, equipment, and miscellaneous supplies/tools that meet necessary quality requirements and equipment specifications to support and continually improve die casting operations
  • Actively researches, trials, and implements new technologies into the die casting process to promote development and advances in the die casting process
  • Executes all scheduled layered process audits to provide accountability and promote a culture of operational discipline
  • Actively participates in the facility Safety Team and complete all STOP audits on-time as scheduled
  • Promotes a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • In accordance with Leadership Standards, develop, measure, improve and achieve key measurable performance objectives including, but not limited to, the following:

    • Cost per Good Shot
    • Die Cast Uptime
    • On-Time Delivery
    • RRPPM
    • Value Per Labor Hour
  • Limited travel for business purposes may be required.
