We are currently searching for a Quality Engineer for a long-term contract assignment in Rock Island, IL.

The Quality Engineer position is a contract position whose primary responsibility is to support the Rock Island Arsenal project from start-up through production. The Quality Engineer will work through the PPAP process, perform all aspects of Quality Control to assure compliance and coordinate cross-functional problem solving activities. Will conduct in-process inspections / audits and inspect the US Government trucks and final product and make sure they meet a documented quality level / standard. Incumbent will be required to interface with Government personnel, suppliers, and Engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work through PPAP approval process.
  • Evaluate and accept / reject criteria.
  • Perform build / audits and quality problem solving - parts & processes..
  • Review manufacturing process and specifications to assure contract compliance.
  • Complete inspection forms for final product.
  • Complete daily progress reports.
  • Program analysis of quality data.
  • Review, log and track non-conformances.
  • Perform root cause analysis.
  • Interface with staff, Quality personnel, Engineering and Government personnel.

SKILLS and EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
  • 2+ years experience in Automotive, Defense or manufacturing related field preferred.
  • Automotive inspection experience highly preferred.
  • Must possess strong communication skills in order to communicate with a local team lead as well as a long-distance manager.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma a plus but not mandatory.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and Outlook.

Limited required physical activity. Individual must be able to carry a laptop and backpack around work stations. Travel - Travel up to 20% may be required. Working conditions include the ability to work both outside and inside in all weather conditions.
