A growing and profitable Automotive Supplier in Simpsonville, Kentucky is in need of a Welding Engineer. This is a Full Time, Permanent, Direct Hire Position offering Competitive Compensation, Bonus Potential, Good Benefits, Paid Holidays and Vacation. Relocation Assistance may be provided if necessary.

Essential Functions:

Troubleshoot production problems and coordinate with manufacturing, quality assurance, maintenance and tooling to ensure the dimensional integrity of all finished goods supplied to our customers. Monitor issues, give frequent status updates to the team and help bring them to a timely resolution.

Establish the welding process and quality parameters for MIG (GMAW) and resistance spot welding operations.Use the welding processes to define and maintain proper methods and standards for quality and production.

Partner with the quality department to establish procedures, processes and equipment to test the resistance and MIG welding applications including cut & etch (macro etch), fillet weld break, transverse tension and guided bend testing.

They will work with the Design and Manufacturing Engineering and Prototype Departments to fine-tune designs, material selection, documentation, fixtures and process control to optimize product manufacturability. They will also conduct weld lobe studies to optimize the welding process.

Design and develop welding systems and fixtures as well as participate in FMEAs.

Study current welding processes and research and recommend new ideas and methods to improve the welding process and reduce costs.

Develop and implement robotic/automated welding systems. Develop and maintain weld training programs for those systems.
Prepare written capital and cost reduction proposals, including cost justifications

Establish equipment standards required for the Welding Department

Develop and maintain a Preventative Maintenance Program on all welding and robotic systems.

Assist in Metallurgical Studies that must be performed.

Manage MIG (GMAW) and resistance welding consumables and weld equipment spare parts.

Identify and implement fail-safe welding systems to eliminate redundant processes and parts.

Participate in new product development activities and incorporate design for manufacture concepts.

Education & Experience:

Experience as a Welding Engineering in an Automotive Manufacturing Environment.
Bachelors of Science in Welding Engineering Technology or an additional 4 years' experience.
Expertise in Designing and Programming Robotic / Automated Welding Systems.
Experience in Destructive and Non-Destructive Weld Testing. American Welding Society (AWS) Certification a plus.
