Our client in Plymouth, Michigan is in need of a Cost Estimator

Summary:

Estimate costs for new products and engineering changes. Gathers details and compiles data to estimate all production costs based on specifications. Considers raw materials purchased components, labor, equipment, tools, outside processing and transportation for estimations. Requires a familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Relies on judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Corporate Cost Estimator

  • Review customer specifications, part prints, CAD, and technical files.
  • Review Design and Manufacturing feasibility analysis.
  • Monitor timely completion of all cross-departmental activities related to the estimating process. Consult with sales, purchasing, operations, capital and tooling engineers to discuss estimates and resolve feasibility issues with recommendations for design, material and process alternatives.
  • Develop a production plan and cost estimate that quantifies the most efficient use of material, capacity, manning and capital. Apply margins that attain minimum financial thresholds. Work with sales to develop alternative pricing scenarios.
  • Facilitate plant quote reviews.
  • Conduct gate reviews at each of the five program management gates outlines in Product Industrialization Roadmap.
  • Assist sales, finance and operations to resolve open issues.
  • Participate, as a technical resource, in Low Cost Commitment Strategy (LCCS)

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (BS) in an applicable discipline from a college or university and a minimum of 1 year of industry experience; or at least 5 years of experience and training as a Tool & Die Maker or Tool Designer; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Abilities (i.e. Language Skills, Reasoning Ability, Computer Skills)

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical publications, or customer specifications.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and product cost estimates. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers, managers, and other employees of this or other company locations.

Math Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Familiarity with both decimal and metric systems.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical, or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

Ability to use Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
