A client in Auburn Hills, MI is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer – High Voltage Battery Packs for a long term contract opportunity.

A global supplier of engineering services to the Transportation Industry, has an opening for an experienced Mechanical Design /CAD Engineer in High-Voltage Battery Packs. The Design Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design and engineering of various high voltage and high energy content Battery Packs for automotive applications. The right candidate will support mechanical design of battery packs from A-Sample to C-Sample and production.


  • Strong fundamentals in battery pack engineering for automotive application
    • Understanding of cell chemistry (LTO, NMC, NCA, LFP), performance and testing.
    • Understanding of electrical, thermal and mechanical characteristics of cells, modules and packs (SOC, SOH, DOD life cycle etc.)
    • Strong know how in automotive certification standards (UN, UL, IPC, SAE and FMVSS) and design for manufacturability.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD commercial s/w namely CREO, NX and CATIA.
  • Must have hands on design skills in using the CAD design tool suite
  • Concept module development from cell (mechanical and electrical)
  • Concept pack design within the vehicle space constraints
  • Mechanical structural design for safety and operation of pack
  • Integration of electrical systems
  • Thermal system design for battery pack thermal management
  • Production program design iteration (A-Sample, B-Sample, C-Sample) management in close collaboration with simulation and safety assessment team
  • Must have excellent understanding of Battery pack housing, structure and cover, module integration, thermal system, integration of E/E components, HV bus bars and system & Wiring harness
  • BOM management
  • Change management
  • Must be highly skilled in performing design activities such as
  • Create drawings based on parametric CAD models per ANSI and ISO standards
  • Should be able develop design to Integrate Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T), Stack up Analysis, Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly.
  • Working experience in the design of injection molded engineering plastics, seals, machining, diecast aluminum, and stamped metal parts.
  • Should have experience designing parts requiring joining techniques namely fastening, welding and adhesives
  • Strong knowledge in engineering materials. Should have good understanding of different materials and grades
  • Work closely with lead engineers and cross functional team members namely Design, simulation, Hardware, software, functional safety etc
  • Communicate project progress to project management and manage project risk appropriately
  • Experience with PLM/PDM systems with ENOVIA 2015x or Team center
  • Experience in an OEM or Tier-1 supplier is advantageous
  • Prepare for and participates in formal and informal design review activities
  • Familiarity with Advanced product quality planning (APQP)


  • Very Strong CAD tool skills such as CREO 3D, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS
  • Strong leadership skills and proactive behaviors
  • 3 to 7 years' experience in Mechanical Design and High -Voltage Battery Pack design for electrification/hybridization of passenger cars or commercial vehicles
  • BSME and or BSEE or Master’s degree preferred Familiarity developing a product from concept to production
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
