Our Client In Auburn Hills, MI is looking for a Mechanical Engineer for a 6 month Contract to Hire


Responsible for mechanical equipment design from concept through the development of final layouts and bills of material. Scope mainly involves design of guarding and features. Reviews, interprets and supports the development of specifications, develops concept sketches, develops final layouts and bills of material, supports manufacturing and build of equipment, and resolves mechanical commissioning issues.

Duties and Responsibilities (not all inclusive)

  • Design, monitor and implement safety guarding features on assembly equipment in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
  • Executes equipment design, feasibility studies, preparation of specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Carries out engineering solutions and designs in compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and project specifications. Applies design standards and generic design patterns.
  • Develops and designs mechanical solutions for equipment of different kinds that provides specified and required functionality and cost effectiveness.
  • Identify and manage machine guarding equipment suppliers.
  • Perform field checks at the customer sites.
  • Review and interpret mechanical specifications.
  • Develop concept sketches for mechanical devices related to assembly systems.
  • Develop design/layout of cost unit & cost unit elements.
  • Present/review design with others including customer.
  • Create assembly layout with balloons.
  • Create details drawings and check drawings for proper detailing.
  • Create all necessary deliverables for engineering release including bill of material (BOM), and then release BOM for procurement
  • Compliance with company, legal, and regulatory requirements for Health, Safety, and Environmental topics in order to foster a culture of Health & Safety.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in a related field from a 4-year college or university and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Design capability using Inventor 3D and/or Solidworks 3D, AutoCAD 2D is required and NX 3D preferred.
  • Experience with guarding design for powertrain assembly equipment or guarding on special machine design is required
  • Capable of executing detailer role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and suppliers. Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to understand customer and applicable international standard requirements.
