Our client, a wholesale distribution company, is seeking to add a Purchasing Coordinator to their growing team. The position is based in Kalamazoo and will be involved with purchasing, inventory management for 5 locations.

Primary responsibilities to include:

  • Manage inventory replenishment for all locations through both direct shipments from suppliers and intercompany transfers
  • Work with Purchasing Manager to track and deliver key inventory metrics
  • Identify and reduce obsolete and overstocked inventory
  • Work with Operations Team to track and manage all inbound overseas container shipments
  • Foster positive supplier relationships
  • Work closely with related department and distribution sites to ensure operational needs are achieved
  • Cost data management: resolve discrepancies working with buyers
  • Analyze costs to understand and evaluate supplier competitiveness
  • Drive continuous improvement in the supply base in support of company business goals
  • Facilitate annual supplier cost improvements activities
  • Plan and direct materials and supply to reduce cost and improve quality
  • Regularly report out progress to leadership
  • Ensure that standard procedures are followed in connection of purchases of material.
  • Participate in preparations of annual forecasts with the sales division.
  • Devise methods and policies ensuring most efficient and economical movement of all material in and out of distribution sites.
  • Analyze and evaluate inventory and delivery problems and recommend solutions.
  • Coordinate functions related to inventory control, and reviews completed sales orders.
  • Communicates with sales teams, operations teams, and others in the business to provide efficient sharing of information and customer service.
  • Special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Business is preferred
  • Up to 3 years of relevant experience
  • Must enjoy working with data for extended periods of time
  • Ability to diagnose problems and suggest solutions with minimal oversight
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational and data management skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines is essential in this fast-paced environment
